English Department Activities for the year 2016-17

The Department of English and Centre for Research aims to be a premium center for learning that nurtures students into accomplished and competent young women. They can contribute effectively and responsible to the society and provide suitable curricular support to the students through remedial programmes, mentoring, tutoring, focus on research and academics and innovative teaching methods to facilitate employability.

Poetry Workshop
National Poetry Workshop by  Indo - Tibetan poet, Tenzin Tsundue A National Poetry Workshop by the famous Indo- Tibetan poet, Tenzin Tsundue was conducted on the 23rd of June, 2016.

Drama Workshop
International Drama Workshop by Nandita DineshAn International Drama Workshop by the famous theatre practitioner, Nandita Dinesh was conducted on the 17th of June, 2016.

Theatre Workshop
Theatre Workshop by the Lokadharmi FoundationOur undergraduate students also attended the Theatre Workshop “An Evening of Poetry in Theatre” by the Lokadharmi Foundation on the 21st of June, 2016.

English Association Inauguration 
St.Teresa's English Association Inauguration -2016-17The English Association for the academic year 2016-17 was officially inaugurated on the 23rd of June, 2016 by Dr. K.N. Raghavan, Commissioner of Customs, Kochi.  The newly elected Association Secretary, Miss Nazrin K H and the Teacher Convener, Dr. Tessy Anthony C (Head of the Department of English) presided over the formal function.

Daughter’s Day Celebrations
As part of Daughter’s Day Celebrations, a National Seminar on “Embracing Change and Challenging Norms : The Young Woman in Urban India” was conducted by the Department of English and Centre for Research in collaboration with the Kerala Chapter of Young Communicators Club(YCC), Public Relations Council of India, on the 29th of July, 2016.


Annual Literary Fest
Awareness on Domestic Violence and Marital Rape by Students’ Social Responsibility (SSR) -St. Teresa's CollegeInto its 6th edition this year, Panache the annual literary fest gained a greater momentum as it transformed itself into a literary cum socio-cultural venture of our department. A social segment was added to it called the Students’ Social Responsibility (SSR). This year under the SSR Scheme, the undergraduate students undertook a project to create awareness about Domestic Violence and Marital Rape. A symposium was conducted on the 12th of August, 2016. The Honourable Mayor Sreemathi Soumini Jain, Major Ravi ( Ex-Armyman and filmmaker), Advocate Ms Sandhya Raju (insert description), Sreemati Tanya Abraham (curator at Kashi Art Gallery), Ms Jyothi Narayanan (description) and Ms T N Seema (social activist and former Rajya Sabha member) were the dignitaries of the day who spoke on the gender sensitization topic. Our undergraduate students also did a flash mob at Oberon Mall to spread awareness about the SSR cause.


Annual Literary cum Socio-Cultural Fiesta
literary cum socio-cultural fiestaPanache 2016, the annual literary cum socio-cultural fiesta was conducted on the 20th of August, 2016, Saturday at various venues in the college. The theme of the fest was “Dreams”.

Class on Latin American Geography, Culture and Literature
class on Latin American Geography, Culture and Literature by Prof. Joao Vincente Ganzarolli de OliveiraA class on the topic Latin American Geography, Culture and Literature was conducted on September 3rd, 2016 by Prof. Joao Vincente Ganzarolli de Oliveira, Ph.D. who is a Professor and Researcher of Disability Studies at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.

UGC NET Coaching Classes Inauguration
UGC NET coaching classes inagurationUGC NET coaching classes were Inaugurated by Dr. Kalyani Vallath on 14th November 2016 who also conducted an introductory workshop on prep tips for clearing the NET exam.

Writing Workshop
Creative writing workshop by Anand NeelakantanA Creative writing workshop by renowned writer, Anand Neelakantan was conducted on 9th December 2016


Art workshop
Women Oriented Art workshop by Jayanthi MoorthyOn 4th January 2017, some of our under graduate students attended a Women Oriented Art workshop by international artist Jayanthi Moorthy, who is a part of A.I.R Inc, New York which is working in collaboration with KBM (Biennale), 2016  this year.

International Seminar Series
International Travel DiscourseAn International seminar series called “International Travel Discourse” was conducted on the  23rd and 24th of  January, 2017. The chief guest of the seminar series was Dr. Anna Christina Mendez, Assistant Professor, University of Lisbon.
