The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was licensed by Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development on 29th September 2015. This framework is for developing a set of metrics for ranking of academic institutions of higher education in India. Methodology is based on the parameters agreed upon by its core committee.

Top institutions from kerala has secure a position in the top list of  NIRF Rankings 2021. Out of 19 colleges in state that secured spot in top 100 position in NIRF ranking 2021, 5 are from Ernakulam district. St. Teresa's College in Ernakulam district excelled in NIRF Rankings 2021. St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous) Ernakulam has ranked 45th in NIRF Rankings 2021. While majority colleges secured poorer ranking in 2021St Teresa’s College (STC) improved its ranking to 45 from 47 in 2020. STC principal Lizzy Mathew said that the college has been improving its NIRF ranks since it applied for it in 2017. “We aim to improve our ranking in the coming years too and the works have been started,” she said.
